Look, it has to be said: I’m not very smart.
But with the marketing we do for various clients I often hear “Wow, that’s a great idea” for things that seem blindingly obvious to me.
We have a client who was keen to try advertising via inserting A4 flyers in the local newspaper.
- $2,400 for the insertion
- $600 for the artwork
- $700 for the printing
That’s $3,700 on something he wasn’t sure would work.
All I did was get the local newspaper every day for the past 10 days and kept all of the inserts of advertisers.
I went through and found the ones that were closest to my client’s business in terms of target demographic and interests. Then I called them up.
They all said a variation of this:
“We thought it would be great – we were bracing ourselves for a ton of sales …….but didn’t make any.”
Sometimes all you have to do is ask the right question of the right person to save yourself $3,700.
Cheers
