One of our clients had a recent web design completed on one of the many sites that offer design services via a competition – that is, you put up your specifications and people do draft designs.
You pick a winner and the design is yours.
It can be a very:
- easy
- cheap and
- effective
way to get a design done for your new web site.
Insist On Copyright Protection
My client accepted the winning design and paid his money.
It took him about an hour to see that the designer had used a photograph within the design without the copyright holders permission.
Yep, he’d basically stolen it.
When you enter competition like the one described above, be sure to avoid the practices of others and state that all work provided must original work and/or any material used is only used with the full permission of the copyright holder.
Otherwise things can get messy.
P.S: An excellent resource for royalty free images is istockphoto. It’s where I get most of the images I use on this site.
Cheers
