The picture below is looking at the Cafe directly below our office (the 4 businesses below our offices are, in order, a Korean restaurant, Dominos pizza, a Cafe, a Bakery – it’s the prefect place for an office!).
As you can see their are umbrellas for each outside table. That’s great except for this point: The footpath is completely enclosed and the person sitting at one of these tables has as much chance of being exposed to rain or sun as I have of winning Lotto tonight (and I don’t even have a ticket).
But It’s Not About Keeping The Rain Off
It’s not about keeping the rain off. It’s about maximising the income for that business. My guess would be that the Care owner has a deal with the coffee supplier to use the umbrellas in return for a discount.
The coffee gets branding help. The Cafe owner gets a discount. The customer doesn’t get anything extra (or maybe they get cheaper coffee because of the deal), but importantly isn’t inconvenienced at all.
Are you maximising the ways you can generate income from your business?
Cheers
