I’ve been looking at a tons of people doing speeches lately and it seems the key to a great speech is a great audience.
You see, speakers feed off a responsive audience.
They get their confidence to continue from an audience that provides constant feedback.
The trick is, of course, is to engage the audience straight up so they have the confidence to laugh at your jokes, get involved in the speech and to happily give you, as the speaker, cues on what they’re loving.
Imagine if in this bit of my speech below the audience didn’t laugh at my jokes.
Imagine if they didn’t give me that ‘permission’ to continue down the path I started on.
Would have been a completely different speech with a different feel.
Tip For You As The Audience Member
Next time you’re listening to someone speak, give this a try:
- Lean forward
- Have you head cocked to one side like you’re trying to catch everything the person says
- Look the speaker in the eye
- Nod slowly when the speaker looks at you
- Occasionally smile at the speaker
You’ll be helping the speaker give an even better presentation.
Cheers
