I read in today’s paper that the Aston Martin used in the James Bond films Thunderball and Goldfinger has sold at auction for more than $2.8 million (AUD) – just under $2.1 million.
It’s a 1965 Aston Martin DB which, under normal circumstances, would sell for a lot, lot less than $2.8 million.
But, you see, it’s not about the car. It’s about the story. It’s the fact that James Bond himself (aka actor Sean Connery) drove the car. The fact that it featured in a James Bond movie. The fact is it has a story.
The car is no longer just a Aston Martin. It is the Aston Martin driven by James Bond. That’s makes it unique, newsworthy and of interest to people.
Get A Story Behind Your Product
A story behind your product, service or business makes your product, service or business more attractive to customers, buyers, the media…..everyone really. And, thus, you’ll sell more (and/or at a higher price).
What story can you use in your marketing? (Because you need a story.)
By the way, for a great example of using stories to promote products check out this media release from RM Auctions (the people who sold the Aston Martin).
Cheers
