I do a fair bit of travelling around the place and do a few reviews on Trip Advisor of the hotels I’ve stayed in, restaurants I’ve eaten in and a few other bits and pieces.
Trip Advisor have just emailed me to let me know I’m among their top 1% most-read reviewers of all time.
Sounds impressive, right?!
It’s no biggie really, but what it is, is neat marketing.
It’s a technique I’ve used numerous times with clients – if an important industry figure or authority provides a little praise, you leverage it to make yourself/your business/your product appear even more popular and successful.
A Beautiful Example Of It I Always Remember
Aaron Wall, one of the web’s best known search engine experts, used a testimonial from me years ago in exactly the same way:
“Sorry for tooting my own horn here, but Brendon Sinclair, of The Web Design Business Kit & Tailored Consulting fame just reviewed my ebook.
As an SEO it is fairly hard to get recognition from people well known in the web design field, and few voices are more credible than Brendon’s, so that review has got me pretty stoked.”
See how Aaron has leveraged my credibility to aid his own credibility.
Simple, effective, ethical and smart.
Trip Advisor Want Me To Brag That I’m In The Top 1%
You see, Trip Advisor want me to brag that I’m in the top 1% – because it increases their brand awareness and credibility. Every little bit helps.
Cheers
