There’s been a fair bit of outrage over this story where the job applicant was asked to hand over his Facebook password.
Everyone seems to be jumping up and down about what an outrage it is.
2 Things Here
1. The First Thing A Potential Employer Will Do
The first thing a potential employer is going to do is check you out on Facebook and via a Google search.
Facebook will bite tons of people on that same ass as I wrote about a couple of years ago.
Don’t Give Me That Nonsense About Only Friends Seeing Your Stuff
(And don’t give me that nonsense about how only your friends see your stuff – I did a speech once where the speaker before me was from a collection agency and he spoke of how Facebook is the resource they use most to track people down.
They have several staff creating fake profiles (pretty girl profiles to suck guys in, good looking guys for the ladies) and sending friend requests to unsuspecting debt dodgers.
Then they have access to just about everything about the debt dodger and go and collect – he told one story of catching the guy at his daughter’s 4th birthday party in the local park after he posted that on Facebook.)
2. Give The Potential Employer Your Password
He’s probably going to see your stuff anyway.
So instead of complaining about it, take this chance to differentiate yourself from every other job applicant.
Cheers
